Authorities have released some information regarding the reported police presence at Winkler's Emerado School yesterday afternoon.

In an email to our newsroom, police Chief Ryan Hunt says officers were called to help school staff with what he calls a 'difficult situation' involving one student.

Hunt noted no weapons were involved and no use of force was required by officers, adding family, school staff, and police worked together to resolve the issue peacefully.

Garden Valley School Division Superintendent Dan Ward said police were called in to assist school staff out of an abundance of caution for the student’s well-being and to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

No other students were involved in the incident, and at no time were students at risk of harm.

As this incident involved a student, to protect the privacy of the student and family, no further information will be shared by either GVSD or the Winkler Police Service.
