A 38-year-old Winkler female is facing several charges after a serious assault with a weapon last week.

Winkler Police responded to the call of an injured person around 12:30 a.m. last Wednesday (January 24th), and found a seriously injured 66-year-old female in the 1600 block of Grandeur Avenue.

The victim had been involved in an altercation with the suspect, an immediate family member.

The investigation determined the suspect began assaulting the victim, who attempted to flee the home, when the suspect produced an edged weapon, and stabbed the victim multiple times in the upper body while uttering death threats.

The victim was eventually able to escape the residence and call for help.

The suspect was located by police in the home, and arrested without incident.

The victim was transported to hospital by paramedics where she was treated, and has since been released.

The 38 year old has been charged with Aggravated Assault, Uttering Threats to Cause Death and Forcible Confinement.

She has been remanded into custody.
