March 26th:       
Officers noted a stop sign at the intersection of Willow Drive and Southview Drive had been vandalized with graffiti.


March 26th:       
Officers attended the Maranatha Church at 2:30 a.m. after a witness called to advised he saw two people on the roof of the Church.  Officers attended and located two males behind the Church, both of whom denied being on the roof.  They were advised of the dangers of what they were doing, and of the legal consequences.  No charges were laid.


March 27th:        
An adult male, age 45, turned himself in knowing a warrant was held for his arrest, for failing to attend court.   He was held in custody overnight and transported to court the next morning.

 
March 28th:        
At approximately 2:18 a.m., officers observed a Dodge Caravan enter 15th Street from Roblin Boulevard without stopping for the stop sign.  When officers activated the emergency lights to stop the vehicle, the driver chose instead to accelerate, attempting to make good on an escape southbound along 15th Street.  The vehicle continued on to a lane just past
Grandeur Avenue, where it turned off road traveling eastbound. The vehicle continued until he lost control, striking a ditch bottom which rendered his vehicle inoperable.  A 16 year old male youth was taken into custody without incident.  He was released to his parents that same morning on a promise to appear in court.  His charges under the Youth Criminal Justice Act include Flight From Police and Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Under the Highway Traffic Act charges include failing to stop for a stop sign and As a Novice Driver in the Learner Stage, Operate a Class 5 Vehicle Without a Supervising Driver. It was the latter charge he was trying to avoid by not stopping in the first place.

 
March 28th:         
A resident of Victoria Street advised that someone had cut down two young trees on their yard and placed them at the front of their residence.  Officers have made numerous inquiries into the matter, which remains under investigation.

 
March 29th:       
A resident of Royal Crescent reported two tires had been punctured on her vehicle while it was parked on the street overnight.

 
March 29th:        
A 19 year old female turned herself in knowing a warrant for her arrest for failing to attend court was held by our police service.  She was released on her promise to attend court, with the added charge of Failing to Attend Court.

 
March 30th:        
Officers attended the family residence of a 20 year old male with a warrant for his arrest for failing to attend court.  He was not home at the time, but turned himself after being advised by his mother that he was wanted by police.  He was once again released, this time facing additional charges of Failing to Attend Court, Breaching his Probation and Breaching an Undertaking.

The Winkler Police Service would like to remind bicycle owners to secure their bicycles when not in use.  Seven bicycle thefts were reported this week, and with a few preventative measures this can be prevented much of the time.
