A 31 year old Winkler woman is facing several weapons related charges after an incident Monday over the noon hour at a business on Roblin Boulevard East.

According to Winkler Police Service, the call initially came in as a report of a female who had pulled a knife, and was seen waving it around inside the business.

Further investigation revealed a female shopper had encountered the suspect holding the knife, who then grabbed one of the shopper’s young children.

The mother grabbed the suspect’s arm holding the knife, and was able to get it away from her.

The suspect then fled the store.

With the assistance of the Morden Police Service, the female was quickly located in Winkler and arrested.

She has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

The accused has been remanded into custody.
