The Canadian Livestock Identification Agency is working on developing its anchor document.

President Dennis McKerracher says the number-one priority is the establishment of a national premises registry.

He adds the timeline is up to the agency's member livestock groups.

Canadian Pork Councnil already has a timeline in place for the establishment of its traceability system.

Meanwhile the other livestock groups, according to McKerracher, are aware of the Agency's timelines and are working with them.

He adds another major issue to overcome is the cost associated with traceability.

McKerracher says a cost sharing formula needs to be developed where both public and private dollars are used.

He notes this has yet to be agreed upon.
