About 35 volunteers with Mennonite Disaster Service showed up in Emerson yesterday to assist with clean-up work. Last weekend's storm system flooded quite a few basements in the community. Workers cleaned out 9 basements yesterday afternoon. MDS spokesman Dan Klassen says volunteers are also trying to lend some moral support to the people they help. He says providing encouragement is an important part of the rebuilding process. Klassen says more volunteers are always welcome. He adds the clean-up work will likely take a few more days to complete.
