Black Friday sales are here and are an excellent opportunity to kick-start holiday shopping.

However, you don't have to cross the border to get a good deal, with many options available within the Pembina Valley.

Buying local is incredibly beneficial for the community, and its residents says Winkler and District Chamber of Commerce President Darren Heide. "63 percent of the dollars spent locally stays within the community when you shop local."

He says it's local shopping often has significantly better customer service when you buy from people you know and trust. Not only is the experience more positive, but it also helps stimulate economic growth, creates jobs, and opportunities for future entrepreneurs and business owners.

With the holiday season right around the corner, businesses and consumers alike are getting excited. And with so many participating in Black Friday sales, Heide says there is something for everyone.

"We have so many unique businesses that we can go experience, that have a lot of unique products and services they offer. It's a great opportunity to see what the community has to offer and look from some great deals, whether it's Christmas shopping or whatever the occasion."

If people are waiting for Cyber Monday, many local businesses have websites, and Heide encourages anyone looking for a good deal to explore and experience what the local business sector has to offer.
