The Garden Valley Zodiacs are Zone 4 High School Fastpitch champions for the second time in school history.

With the final tied 5-5, the Zodiacs plated three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and went on to defeat the Sanford Sabres 8-5 Thursday in Portage la Prairie.

GVC beat Portage Collegiate 6-1 in the semifinals ending the Saints five-year run as Zone 4 champions.

Hailey Buhler pitched all 14 innings for Garden Valley. 

The Sabres downed the Carman Cougars 13-7 in the other semi.

The Zodiacs, who won their first Zone banner in 1997, hosted the Provincial championship last June and lost 10-3 to PCI in the quarterfinals.

The 2019 Provincial High School Fastpitch Championship will be held May 31st & June 1st in Russell.
