RCMP officer cleared in January shooting death in Dominion City
No charges will be laid against the RCMP officer involved in a fatal shooting in Dominion City earlier this year. The decision by the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) comes after reviewing all available evidence collected by the IIU investigators, including three professional witness statements and two civilian witness statements. On the morning of January 14th, officers were called to a wellness check at home in Dominion City. While waiting for backup, a man came toward the first officer on scene with a metal object in his hand. The officer commanded the man several times to drop the item, but he continued to advance and that's when the officer discharged his service firearm. Immediately after, he began CPR on the man until paramedics could take over. The man was brought to hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to his injuries. The IIU civilian director’s complete report is available at here.
