Volunteer Manitoba has has announced the recipients of its 34th annual Volunteer Awards, and someone from Southern Manitoba has received one of the most prestigious awards.

Ang Stoesz from Altona will receive the Association of Manitoba Municipalities Community Leadership Award during a ceremony April 25th at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg.

Ang, who was nominated by Winnipeg Harvest, joined us in studio Wednesday morning, and we started our conversation with how it feels to be recognized.

Ang was nominated primarily for her work with starting the Rhineland Area Food bank 21 years ago, and being part of ts success ever since. Her work with the Altona Christmas Day Dinner for the past two decades, and the nearly $70,000 she's raised for CancerCare Manitoba's Challenge For Life were also noted in the nomination submission.

We asked Ang to talk about the importance of getting involved in the community, and her advice to young people about stepping up and volunteering.

Ang is one of thirty individuals and groups receiving a Volunteer Manitoba award April 25th in Winnipeg. Congratulations to every one of you!
