Wade Allison is continuing to develop his hockey skills at Western Michigan University (WMU) in hopes of one day cracking the Philadelphia Flyers squad.

"I think we are off to a pretty good start. We are playing some good hockey right now and we have been all year. Everyday we are getting better. That's our mentality when we come to the rink,'' said Allison who was drafted in the second round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. "I think coach is pretty happy with we have started. Obviously, there's a couple of points where we can look back and be like 'alright, we didn't quite get the job done'. We already have the same amount of wins as we had last year and it's Christmas. I think we heading in the right direction."

So far the 6'2'' forward has recorded 9 goals (5A) and 14 points in 16 games this season.

Most recently he earned the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) player of the week honours. Allison picked up an assist in Friday's loss to University of North Dakota (UND). Then netted two goals, including the game-winner, and an assist for his first career three-point game in Saturday's 3-1 win. Allison previously earned NCHC Rookie of the Week after WMU's win and tie over Bowling Green back in October.

"I got lucky a couple of times," said Allison. "Obviously it's a huge honour, but I couldn't have done it without the team. The guys were laying it down on the line every day and every shift. It's a team game and I just happened to get some of the glory for the weekend."

It's another step forward in his young career and as with every step up the competition gets better and better.

"It's a lot different. Everybody's bigger, faster, stronger, and competes harder. That's just something you have to adjust to and it took a little bit for me, but as of right now I think I got it figured out," said Allison.

According to Allison the intensity level is one of the biggest changes after making the jump from the USHL to the NCAA Division 1.

"Everything we do is 100% full intensity. You can't take shifts off, you can't take seconds off. Every mistake is so magnified," added Allison.

Playing in his first NCAA game, scoring his first goal, recording his first three point game, or even being named player of the week, is all trumped by just having the opportunity to play Division 1 hockey.

"It's really exciting to come to the rink every day happy, come to the rink every day ready to learn and get better. That's just the mentality in the locker room," explained Allison. "I absolutely love it."
