Kathryn Cullen of Beausejour and Brayden Payette of Brandon captured the Manitoba Junior Curling Tour’s Quality Inn Classic this past weekend at the Winkler Curling Club.

Cullen, third Lauren Kuzyk, second Brianna Cullen and lead Julia Millan went undefeated in the round robin as they beat Shea Bevens of Winnipeg 6-3; blanked Abby Kitchens of Devils Lake 12-0 and downed Brooke Friesen of Winkler 4-2.

The Beausejour foursome shutout Paige Watkins of Winnipeg 7-0 in the semifinals and edged Meghan Walter of Winnipeg 5-4 in the championship game.

Payette, along with third Tyler Grumpelt, second Bryce Cisyk and lead Kyle Gardiner lost their opener 4-2 to Joshua Friesen of Altona and then defeated Callum Ross of Winnipeg 6-3 and Reece Braden of Winnipeg 11-1.

Payette downed Zachary Wasylik of Winnipeg 8-3 in the quarterfinals; avenged their earlier loss by beating Friesen 6-1 in the semifinals and recorded a 6-3 victory over Jack Hykaway of Winnipeg in the championship game.

24 teams competed in the Quality Inn Classic.
