The Winkler Flyers have added some more veteran leadership with the acquisition of forward Tanner Lewis (96) from the Virden Oil Capitals. The Virden, Manitoba native was in his third season with the Oil Caps and recorded seven points (2 goals – 5 assists) in 20 games played this year.

“Tanner is a smart, honest hockey player with good character,” said Flyers Head Coach and General Manager Ken Pearson.

“He will be a great addition for us both on the ice and in the dressing room” added Pearson.

The 6’0”, 171lbs right hand shooting forward was in his third season with the Oil Caps. In 134 regular season games in Virden, he recorded 51 points (20 goals – 31 assists) and 70 penalty minutes. He will provide tremendous depth and leadership to the Flyers moving forward.

Tanner is the son of former Flyer Dale Lewis who played for the Orange and Black in the late 1980’s. The Flyers sent future considerations to the Oil Capitals in the trade.

The Flyers would like to welcome Tanner and his family to the Flyers organization and look forward to seeing him on the ice this weekend.

In another roster deadline move, the Winkler Flyers have added D Nathan Peabody (96) and G Troy Martyniuk (97) from the Waywayseecappo Wolverines for the list rights to D Aiden Woodley (99) and future considerations.

Peabody is a 6’2”, 181lbs defenseman from Grand Forks, North Dakota who recorded two goals and 27 penalty minutes in four games played with Wayway this season. The 20 year old split time last year between the Wolverines and the Estevan Bruins (SJHL) and had 11 points (1 goal – 10 assists) and 74 penalty minutes.

"Nathan brings a big frame and also skates and shoots well and will provide depth and experience to our blueline" said Flyers Head Coach and General Manager Ken Pearson.

Martyniuk is a 5’10”, 180lbs goaltender from Winnipeg. The 19 year old spent the past two seasons with the Dauphin Kings, Brooks Bandits (AJHL) and Waywayseecappo. Last season, Martyniuk had a 6-11 record with a .900 save % and 3.45 GAA with the Wolverines and will benefit from a strong Flyers’ defense corps.

"Troy will be a good one-two punch with (Cole) Weaver and the competition will make both of them better. It really helps solidify our goaltending. He brings good experience having played in the Western Canada Cup as an under aged player with Dauphin back in 2014" said Pearson.

The Flyers would like to welcome Nathan, Troy and their families to the Flyers organization and look forward to seeing them in Orange and Black uniforms this weekend.

The Winkler Flyers busy roster deadline day continues as the club has announced two more trades. The Flyers have traded F Nico Labossiere (98) to the Selkirk Steelers for future considerations and have also dealt D Dylan Dix (98) to the Thief River Falls Norskies (SIJHL) for future considerations.

Labossiere was in his second full season with the Flyers and recorded 31 points (9 goals - 22 assists) in 70 regular season games played over that time. Dix was in his first season with the club and was held pointless through 14 games.

The Flyers would like to thank Nico and Dylan for their hard work and wish them nothing but the best in the future.
