Despite losing her last two round round games, Michelle Englot of the Granite will play in the 1-1 page playoff game at the 2017 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the Eric Coy Arena in Winnipeg.

Englot dropped an 8-4 decision to Cathy Overton-Clapham of Fort Rouge but clinched first place when Kerri Einarson of East St. Paul lost 10-5 to Darcy Roberston of Pembina.

Englot, Einarson and Robertson all finished with 5-2 records but the Granite foursome advanced to the 1-1 game because they finished first in the group in the accumulative skills based ranking which is the draw to the button done by each team prior to each draw.

“We do focus on that to make sure that we do have a good draw to the button,” said Englot. “That's the way it works in the Slams and things like that. The draw to the button in tie-breakers becomes very important.”

“We need to pick up our game a little bit,” added Englot. “We started strong at 5-0 and lost our last two. We need to turn things around a little bit and start making a few more key shots.”

Englot, third Kate Cameron, second Leslie Wilson and lead Raunora Westcott will face Jennifer Jones of St. Vital in the 1-1 page playoff game.

“Against a team that is as strong as Jennifer's, you need to make sure that your rocks are in the right positions and you don't leave them any angles on things,” said Englot. “So rock position is critical. That's something that we will be focusing on.”

Robertson jumped out to a 5-1 lead after four ends and defeated Einarson 10-5 this morning.

The rematch goes at 4 p.m. and the winner will advance to the 2-2 game.

“We're excited to be in this position and if we keep playing like we're playing we'll have a good chance,” Robertson said. “It always comes down to the final days of the Scotties. You never know until then.”

Overton-Clapham and Beth Peterson of Assiniboine Memorial finished tied for fourth in the Red Group at 4-3, Lisa Menard of Dauphin was 3-4 while Meghan Armit of West Kildonan and Tiffany McLean of Portage were 1-6.

Still in the hunt for a playoff spot in the Black Group are Cheryl Reed of Brandon and Shannon Birchard of St.Vital who are 4-2 and Briane Meilleur of Fort Rouge who is 3-3.

Darcy Robertson and Kerri Einarson will meet in a tie-breaker at 4 p.m.
