The Border West Baseball League is no longer.

Welcome the Border Baseball League.

"It was a long time ago when they went to the name Border West and there was a bit of drama involved," said league President Darren Russell. "Everyone involved today has moved on past that. As we expand to the East and include Carman it is more representative of what we are."

It was a unanimous decision by members of the league to change the name.

For the 2018 season, the League will also be increased in size. This coming summer there will be eight teams with the addition of Carman.

''We're all very excited," said Russell. "They fit in very well. They people involved want to ensure that grassroots baseball continues in Manitoba and want to provide they're younger people an opportunity to play into their adult lives."

Carman made an application for membership in the Border Baseball League and after a brief discussion, Carman was granted membership in the Border Baseball League beginning in the upcoming 2018 season.

Carman will be joining the Baldur Regals, Cartwright Twins, Clearwater Baseball Club, Killarney Lakers, Morden Mohawks, Pilot Mound Pilots and Winkler Whips in the Border Baseball League.

Also during the 2018 baseball season, Clearwater will be hosting the Senior "A" Provincials in August.

Russell said the league always enjoys participating in the Provincial tournaments.

"It's natural that we should be stepping up and hosting them," said Russell. "I commend Clearwater for taking it on. It's a small town, but they have a lot of volunteers, heart, and support for baseball. I have no doubt they'll do a great job hosting it."

This past 2017 season, the Border West All-Stars won the Baseball Manitoba Senior "AA" All-Star Provincials hosted in Brandon. With the win, they earned the right to represent Manitoba at the 2018 Western Canadian Championships in Moose Jaw, SK August 16-19, 2018.
