Winkler Flyers Goaltender Cole Weaver has been named the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s Rookie of the Year. Weaver, who was also nominated for the MJHL’s Top Goaltender Award, has a 24-9-2 record so far this season with a .909 save percentage and a 2.42 goals against average.

"It's a great honour, but I have to give credit to my teammates. Without them and their support, I wouldn't be given that award," said Weaver.

My defence for sure. They have been helping me get the shots from the outside and allowing me to see the puck. That's a big part of it," continued Weaver.

Playing in his first season in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, the 18 year old Champlin, Minnesota native has been great for the Flyers as they sit near the top of the standings with the playoffs just around the corner.

With three shutouts to his credit, Weaver has been a calming influence in the defensive zone all season long as Winkler sits second in the league in goals against average. On top of the Rookie of the Year honor, Weaver was also named to the Manitoba Junior Hockey League’s 2nd All-Star Team and All-Rookie Team.

Flyers Defenseman Lawson McDonald, who was one of the three finalists for the MJHL’s Top Defenseman Award was named a 1st Team All-Star. Hockey Ability & Sportsmanship Finalist Scott Gall, and 17 year old defenseman Tyler Jubenvill were also selected to the 2nd All-Star Team.
