Toni Conrad scored twice in the first period en route to a 3-2 win over the Winnipeg Avros Sunday afternoon.

"I just did the easy stuff. Kenzie Heide had a great shot and I was able to get my stick on it and tip it in and Alyssa Alderson gave me a beautiful pass on the other one," said Conrad. "It was them doing the work. I was just helping out."

Conrad potted her first goal of the afternoon with 11:30 remaining on the clock in the opening period, and before the opening twenty was done she tipped home a Heide point shot to put her team up 2-0 after twenty.

The Hawks, who lost to the Westman Wildcats 4-3 in overtime Friday night, would tally once more. Alderson went in on a break away and tucked it five hole past Lauren Taraschuk, who made 24 saves in the loss for Winnipeg.

"It was nice to get it, to help the team win and it was nice to head into the Christmas break with a win," said Alderson.

In roughly the final ten minutes of the third period the Hawks weathered an Avros storm. Sophie Vandale, and Skyler Somers were able to find the back of the net to bring the visiting Winnipeg within one.

"The big thing is you have to tell them to stick to the game plan. You got to talk to them one-on-one. There's a lot of talking for sure," said head coach Dana Bell when asked about keeping his team in the game when the Avros pushed back.

Halle Oswald made 21 saves in the victory for Pembina Valley.

This was the Hawks last game prior to the Christmas break, and the team will hit the ice next against the Yellowhead Chiefs January 4th, and play at home next January 6th when the Westman Wildcats come to Manitou.
