The Pembina Valley Hawks lost a 4-2 decision to the Eastman Selects Sunday afternoon to wrap up their 2016-17 Manitoba "AAA" Midget Hockey League regular season schedule.

"It didn't go our way. We had some tough bounces in there and a bad short-handed goal, but we need to move on to playoffs here," said Pembina Valley defence Owen Wiebe. "We've been playing pretty good in the last stretch here and hopefully we can find it for our next game."

Braydon Brown was able to capitalize on the penalty kill and score a short-handed goal to put the visiting Selects up 1-0 in the first.

Meanwhile, in the second the Hawks saw a pair of goals from Winkler's Caleb Unrau, while Preston Seymour replied for Eastman to keep the game tied after forty minutes of play.

"I play with a couple of really good linemates. They set me up pretty good today and I just happen to bury it," added Unrau.

Burke Heide and Curtis Brule would increase the Selects lead by two in the third period and end the Hawks regular season schedule on a losing note.

Pembina Valley goaltender Aaron Brunn turned aside 29 of the 33 shots he faced in the game. The Hawks, who will finish fourth place in the league will square off with the Brandon Wheat Kings in the first round of playoffs. Pembina Valley and Brandon have split their four meetings this season.

Last time Pembina Valley hoisted the Jack Forsyth Trophy was in 2015. Hawks head coach Rylan Price was a coach on that team and stated he see's a lot of similarities between the two.

"We're very talented and it's just a matter of finding a way to work together," said Price. "There wasn't one or two lines that did it for us a couple of years ago. I don't want to think too far ahead. We have to focus on Brandon. We are going to study up on them and hopefully find a few of their tendencies and be ready to play next Friday night."
