Mackenzie Hutchinson scored the game's first and only goal in double overtime to lift the Pembina Valley Hawks past the Winnipeg Avros 1-0 in double overtime.

"The puck just came to me at the blueline and I just took a slapshot. It just happened to go in," said Hutchinson.

13:56 into the second overtime period Hutchinson beat Avros goaltender Lauren Tarashchuck, who made 41 saves in the loss, to secure the win for Pembina Valley. Katelyn Heppner and Toni Conrad picked up the assists on the goal as the Hawks are off to the Championship series.

"It's huge. It's good to have a week break and kind of re-focus. It gives our girls some rest and allows us to get ready for the finals," said assistant coach Shanley Peters.

The game lasted a total of 83:56 of game time and really showed which team was conditioned enough to continue to push forward.

"We always try and make sure we get some conditioning in during the year and getting the girls working out, so we are ready for games like this. It's always good when the girls are well conditioned and can play for the whole game."

Hawks goaltender Halle Oswald was perfect in the game, stopping all 42 shots.

"It feels great. I did what I needed to do. I feel I played solid and it feels good," explained Oswald.

The 1-0 win completed the sweep for Pembina Valley, who are returning to the final series for the first time after losing to the Central Plains Capitals in the semi-finals last season.

At this time the Hawks await their championship series opponent as the Yellowhead Chiefs and Westman Wildcats best-of-five semi-final series has the Wildcats leading 2 games to 1 and could wrap up as late as March 11th.
