The Pembina Valley Hawks are off to the Manitoba Female Midget Hockey League's semi-finals after completing the sweep of the Central Plains Capitals with a 6-3 win Sunday.

"The sweep is huge. It's a confidence builder for us. You look at the last couple of years the Capitals put us out two years back-to-back," explained Hawks coach Dana Bell. "Coming in and sweeping the series is a huge confidence booster for the girls."

After a scoreless opening period of play, Mackenzie McCallum capitalized on a blocked shot, which sprung her on a short-handed breakaway, and the Hawks first goal of the game. Brooklyn Platt put one five-hole past Ella Wiebe to increase Pembina Valley's lead to 2-0. Amy Klippenstein tallied the lone goal for the Capitals in the middle period. Toni Conrad was able to score her first of two in the game before the middle frame concluded.

In the final frame Alyssa Alderson, Hannah Petrie, and Conrad scored for the Hawks.

"It's really good! I'm happy that I was able to help out," said Conrad. "I'm happy that we didn't take them lightly and we kept crashing the net."

Meanwhile, Maegan Inman and Chloe Snaith were able to find the back of the net for Central Plains.

Halle Oswald made 15 saves in the contest for Pembina Valley.

The Hawks will now prepare to take on the Winnipeg Avros in the MFMHL semi-finals starting February 28th in Morden.

"We need to shut them down. We need to use our forecheck and backcheck, make sure they don't get shots through and go up and pressure them," said McCallum.
