The Calgary Flames are on the kind of run the Winnipeg Jets wish they were on - especially at this time of the season.

Brian Elliott stopped 31 shots as the Flames won their ninth game in row, 3-0 over Winnipeg Saturday night at MTS Centre.

It's the second straight shutout for Elliott who is 12-1-1 in his last 14 games.

Mikael Backlund and Michael Frolik scored power play goals while Dougie Hamilton chipped in with three assists for Calgary.

Jets head coach Paul Maurice was not impressed with his team's lack of discipline.

"Even if your penalty kill is outstanding, it's eight minutes of high sticking penalties in the second period. Maybe it'll give you a better chance to win, but our penalty killing is clearly a problem for us. But we go 10 minutes in that second period and we're right and we're on the game and then we really get the ice tilted and then we spend the rest of the period in the penalty box."

Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck made 26 saves.

The Jets, who lost the last three games of their six-game homestand, are nine points back of the St. Louis Blues for the second wild card in the Western Conference with 13 games remaining.

Winnipeg (30-36-6) will begin a three-game road trip Monday night when they face the Nashville Predators.
