Cade Kowalski scored the over time winner just :36 seconds into overtime, and Aaron Brunn had a 26 save shutout as the Pembina Valley Hawks defeated the Eastman Selects 1-0 Sunday afternoon.

"We were struggling to get into the zone at first. Then Garrett (Szremely) kept the puck in the zone, made a nice pass to Eli (Carels) and Eli made a great feed to me, and all I had to do was shoot it in," said Kowalski when asked about his seventh goal of the season, which happened to be the game winner.

It was a back and forth game with both teams getting chances, but neither goaltender would let the puck cross the line. Selects goaltender Noah Morin, turned aside 29 of the 30 shots he faced, while Brunn was perfect with all 26 pucks fired his way.

"It always feels good to get shutouts. It's pretty special and one I'll remember, it was a good game today," said Brunn about his second shutout of the season.

After sixty minutes of scoreless hockey, off to overtime the game went. The Hawks were fortunate to start the extra frame on the man advantage and had a four-on-three power-play in the sudden death overtime. It was at this point where Kowalski picked the top far corner to propell Pembina Valley over Eastman. Carels and Szremely drew the assists on the play.

The Hawks were perfect all three times on the penalty kill, and went one-for-five on the power play.

This is Pembina Valley's third straight win at home, improving to 9-2.

"They are very important. It's a big boost of condfidence for the boys. We don't like to lose at home," said Hawks forward Quade Froese. "It's our motto to not lose at home."

The Hawks were perfect on the weekend and edged the Winnipeg Thrashers 2-1 in a shootout Saturday night and are in sixth place in the Manitoba "AAA" Midget Hockey League.

Next up for the Hawks is a weekend northern road trip to Thompson for a pair of games against the Norman Northstars (5-22-0-0-1).
