The Morden Magics sent a team for the first time to Grand Forks to compete in the Lucky Chance Invitational meet hosted by the Red River Valley Gymnastics club.

Clubs from 11 communities participated with the only club from Canada being Morden Magics.  Only a small squad of 23 gymnasts made the trip south of the border to compete with a total of 366 athletes.  The 24,000 sq ft facility in Grand Forks was a great venue for this event

All athletes needed to complete required elements in their category for events including uneven bars, balance beam, vault and floor routine.

Morden Magics placed 2nd as a team in 3 of the events - Gold, silver, and bronze.

Alissa Giesbrecht placed first overall in the Bronze event (age 11 and up) with a score of 37.125, Hannah Friesen 2nd with 36.500, Erica Alderson 3rd with 36.250 and Emma Patterson 4th with 35.775

Marlie Ens placed first overall in the bronze event (age 9-10) with a score of 36.875 with Kassidy Bourgeois placing second with 36.725

Ava Apperley placed 2nd in the silver event (age 12 and up) with a score of 36.675,

Kaedyn Reimer placed 5th in the same event with 35.725 and Mya Tremble also finished in the top ten of this event.

Sonya Prokopetz placed first overall in the gold event (age 14 and up) with a score of 37.050 while Catrina Peters scored 36.750 for third and Abby Wiebe, 36.650 for forth,  Emily Klassen 35.550 for fifth and Devin Toews - 35.400 for sixth, Jessica MacPherson - 35.050 for seventh.

Kaelyn Bergman finished 3rd in the Level 6 event with 34.700 and Jenna Penner finished fourth with 34.575

The high scores and consistent top placement among the Morden athletes is a testimony to the diligent coaching, discipline and encouragement the local gymnasts experience on a weekly basis during training. Morden Magics are the largest rural club in Manitoba. Several more competitions are to follow including Morden's own show coming up at the end of March.
