Stonewall claimed victory at the Provincial High School Championship in Winkler this Saturday. The Rams outscored Portage Collegiate 12-8 in the final, ending the Saints' three-year run as provincial champions.

"This has been a process of about four years we've been together with all these (players) and they've been working their butts off to win this and finally come through this year," said coach Dennis Woods. "For the fact that we can't really be together all the time as a team because they're club teams, they've accomplished wonderful things this year."

The biggest focus of this game was strengthening their defense, Woods said.

The Miller Aces beat Major Pratt of Russell 13-3 in the third place game.

Prior to the championship, the Miller Aces acquired a wild card and managed to capture bronze on the weekend.

"It means a lot to us for sure. We were definitely the underdogs coming in. We battled hard, got a wild card playing against Neepawa. I don't think a whole lot of teams expected a lot from us but the girls pulled it together," said coach Breanne Heinrichs.

The host Garden Valley Zodiacs lost 10-3 to Portage Collegiate in the quarterfinals.
