The Carman Beavers, Notre Dame Hawks and Warren Mercs have joined the Portage Islanders in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League semifinals after ending their respective opening round series Tuesday night on the road.


Beavers 5 Maroons 2
Darren Bestland, Laurent Benjamin, Scott Sisson, Aaron Lewadniuk and Mitch O'Brien did the goal scoring as the defending champion Beavers downed Altona 5-2 at Sunflower Gardens. Matt Dyck and Jon Froese replied for the Maroons. Carman took the best-of-five quarterfinal three games to one and will face Portage in round two. The Islanders swept the Winkler Royals in three straight games in their opening round series.

Hawks 7 Flyers 0
Brian Michiels scored twice and Alcide Grenier made 21 saves as Notre Dame blanked the Flyers 7-0 in Stonewall. Cale Jefferies, Paul Chanel, Jean Prejet, Nico Chanel and Jason Yeul also scored for the first place Hawks who captured that series in four games.

Mercs 5 Redskins 2
Wes Paluk scored twice and Brock Genyk had three assists as Warren defeated the Redskins 5-2 in Morden and took that series three games to one. Matt Jacobucci, Kyle Luschinski and Trent Genyk also scored for the Mercs who will face Notre Dame in the semifinals. Cole Penner and Tyler Penner replied for the Redskins who were eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs for the first time since the 2010-2011 season.
