The defending champion Morden Thunder are into round two of the Zone 4 High School Hockey League playoffs and the Prairie Mountain Mustangs recorded a huge road win over the Mavericks in Morris in game one of their series.


Thunder 6 Tigers 1
Keane Boucher scored twice and Tanner Wiebe had a goal and two assists as Morden downed Pembina 6-1 Wednesday night in Cartwright. Brayden Jonasson, Spencer Norrie and Finley Wheeler also scored for the Thunder who swept the best-of-three quarterfinal in two games straight.  Ethan Carels had the lone goal for the Tigers. Morden goaltender Owen Domitruk faced 19 shots. Nathaniel DeGraeve stopped 25 shots in net for Pembina.


Mustangs 4 Mavericks 3
Kyle Devos scored his second goal of the game with 4:30 remaining as Prairie Mountain slipped past the Mavericks 4-3 in Morris in game one of their series. Tom Chanel and Keenan Mangin also scored for the Mustangs. Jordan Keck, Nathan Ayotte and Lucas Siemens replied for the Mavericks. Game two goes Friday night in Swan Lake. Prairie Mountain and Morris have now met four times this season and visiting teams have won all four games.
