The Morris Mavericks and Garden Valley Zodiacs have grabbed the lead in their respective best-of-three Zone 4 High School Hockey League semifinals.

 

Zodiacs 4 Tigers 0
Logan Enns stopped all 25 shots he faced as Garden Valley shutout the Pembina Tigers 4-0 Tuesday night in Cartwright. Kade Whale, Enrico Franz, Josh Kasdorf and Ryan Krahn did the goal scoring for the Zodiacs. Arlen Peters and Randy Wiebe chipped in with two assists each. Tigers netminder Tanner Harms made 26 saves. Game two goes Thursday in Winkler.

 

Mavericks 7 Mustangs 3
Justin Keck had two goals and three assists as Morris defeated Prairie Mountain 7-3. Max Collette also scored twice for the hometown Mavericks who pulled away from the Mustangs thanks to a five-goal second period. Cody Clark, Daniel Issak and Stanley Storck also scored for Morris. Prairie Mountain goals went to Ian Delichte, Merek DeGraeve and Luke Van de Velde. The game was tied 1-1 after the first period. The Mavericks enjoyed a 6-1 lead after 40 minutes. Morris goaltender Ryan Coulombe faced 22 shots. Remy Bosc and Nathan Talbot combined to make 40 saves in net for the Mustangs. Game two is set for Thursday in Notre Dame.
