The Zone 4 High School Hockey League handed out it's awards for the 2016-2017 season on Wednesday night in Carman prior to game two of the league final between the Cougars and Morden Thunder.


Most Valuable Player - Colton Harder (Miller Aces)
Harder is a Grade 11 student who plays forward and is one of the team's assistant captains. Colton possesses excellent speed and a very high level of skill which has led to his big offensive output this year. Through 23 league games Colton has compiled a very impressive league leading 32 goals and 24 assists. Colton plays center and has improved his game this year to become a complete player is all aspects of the ice. Colton should be just as proud of his defensive game as his offensive numbers and is often described by his coach as a 200 foot player.

 
Top Goaltender - Griffin Dyck (Northlands Parkway Nighthawks)
Dyck is an NPC co-captain who leads by his determination, preparation, excellence, and good humour. Griffin has posted a .907 save percentage in league play while typically facing a 40-shot barrage per night. Griffin has combined his natural athleticism with a technical aspect of the game that allows him to make saves that he has no business making. Additional Highlights: Brandon tourney, Griffin made 46 saves as NPC beat Vincent Massey Wpg (3rd rank in province) 1 - 0. Virden tourney, NPC 4 wins and 0 losses and Griffin won 3 and lost 0. Winkler tourney, Griffin stopped 39 of 40 shots vs Steinbach, A-Side Semi-finals in 2-1 shoot-out loss. Steinbach would later win the final 3 - 0 vs Morden.


Top Defenseman Lew Meuller Award - Lucas Neufeld (Portage Collegiate Trojans)
Neufeld broke into Zone 4 with a splash scoring consistent goals since his rookie year and has grown into one of the league's best at his position, winning award's for both forward and defence. On the ice, he's is a terrific skater with a big shot and a flair for the dramatic; off the ice, he's one of hockey's most outgoing personalities, and he has shown he's a natural leader on and off the ice. Lucas was also voted MVP at the Zone 4 All Star Game.


Most Sportsmanlike Lloyd C. Orchard Award - Matthew Fehr (Miller Aces)
Fehr is a Grade 12 student who plays forward and is the Aces team captain. Matthew is a true leader by example, leading the team in blocked shots and assists. He is among the league leaders in points (5th overall), scoring 15 goals and 32 assists while spending only 4 minutes in the penalty box. Matthew plays the game hard and is a great leader for the Aces. He is a big reason why the Aces have had a successful season.
