The Morden/Winkler/Altona Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) received a $10,000 financial boost earlier this week from the Boston Pizza Foundation.

"It's to help us expand our programming in our service area," said BBBS Executive Director Michael Penner. "It's a much-needed boost for our organization to really help us push to the next level."

Penner continued to say it came as a nice surprise to the organization.

This money is earmarked for helping find more mentors, making sure all the matches are supported and have healthy and growing relationships, and conducting more group programming.

"With groups, we can mentor kids at once, which is really cool to see," said Penner.

Penner added they need more mentors with a long list of children who would benefit from mentorship.

The $10,000 donation was raised three ways according to Morden Boston Pizza General Manager Mike Rose. Staff sold paper hearts, a dollar from every mini desserts added to the donations, as well as a dollar for every heart-shaped pizza sold on Valentine's day.

The Boston Pizza Foundation supports five charities each year and this year the local chapter of BBBS was one of the charities selected.
