160 acres of Canola was harvested Monday afternoon as part of approximately forty Canadian Food Grains Banks (CFGB) projects across the Province.

Co-coordinator of the Gardenland Project Marv Thiessen explained the field seemed to have good yields and they'll be able to know more at the end of the harvest as to how the field did.

The project is located a few miles north of Winkler and had a number of local agricultural business' take the crop off the field which included Little Morden Service, Green Valley Equipment, Gen Ag, Rocky Mountain Equipment, Centennial Supply, and BP and Sons Grain.

"It feels great to have everybody do their part and chip in. It makes a little easier on the farmers, which is the base of these projects," said Thiessen.

The approximately forty projects in Manitoba make up around 5,000 acres of crop being donated to CFGB this year. Manitoba representative Harold Penner stated this is on par with previous years, but noted it has been increasing over the years, which is great to see.

"In Manitoba we raise about $3 million lately for Food Grains Bank. About $2 million of that comes from projects like this," said Penner.

Penner stated he's grateful for the continued support from the entire province and is happy to see so many people continue to support these type of projects.
