The 2017 Esso Cup National Female "AAA" Midget Hockey Championship is over and the Pacific region representative St. Albert Slash were crowned national champions after a perfect 7-0 run at the tournament.

This tournament featured the top six female midget hockey teams from across the country and was held in Morden from April 23rd to the 29th.

"I think the atmosphere at the arena has been awesome. In the whole community everyone has embraced the event. So, we are very excited with the turn out," said host committee chair Clare Agnew. "The volunteers and the comments we are getting are just fabulous."

Agnew stated everyone has gone above and beyond to make the experience great for all parties involved.

"I think the Pembina Valley region does an excellent job of hosting events and for volunteers, whether they were involved or interested in hockey or not, they just want to be involved because it's an event," said Agnew. "We do that every year with sports and festivals. I think the community just really does a great job."
