Crops are looking good as the growing season begins to wind down in southern Manitoba, according to Jack Froese who farms in the Winkler area.

Early season cereals are starting to turn and Froese expects to be in the combine in the next week or two. He noted canola is filling in nicely but says a little rain wouldn't hurt to help fill corn and soybeans.

He talks about fungicide operations at his farm this year.

"We did fungicide on all of our canola as well as some of the dry beans. We didn't do all of them because we thought conditions at the time weren't right for that, but the rain has held off for the last little bit so the need isn't quite that serious right now," said Froese.

As for insects, he says they haven't been a real issue this year.
