Ham, baked potatoes, vegetables, and dessert are on the menu Christmas Day. The 25th Community Christmas Dinner starts at 11 a.m. at W. C. Miller Collegiate in Altona.

Angelika Stoesz says the event is open to everyone, especially those alone over the holidays.

Those who require transportation are encouraged to call 204-324-7103 and ask for George, who will provide a pickup and drop-off service.

Volunteers are needed this Christmas, with 10-12 spots open over the course of the meal, and 10 or more required to clean up the facility. To help out, call 204-324-8139 and leave a message if no one answers.

Stoesz has been involved for 20 years, but will step back after Christmas. The organizing committee is looking for someone to lead the event, and encourages community members to come forward. More changes are incoming for 2017, as the dinner will move to the Rhineland Pioneer Centre, which has additional space and is better equipped for people with mobility challenges.
