An Altona man is facing numerous charges including resisting arrest and aggravated sexual assault after an incident in Winkler, October 7.

Winkler Police were dispatched to Genesis House at approximately 4:00 a.m and learned of a domestic assault that had taken place at a home on 2nd St.

The female victim explained her husband, from whom she is currently separated, punched her in the face, kicked her down a flight of stairs, and continued to kick her while she lay on the floor.

The assault took place while her three young children were present in the home.

She also disclosed to police the man sexually assaulted her during the incident.

Police arrived at the home to find three young children inside, and the suspect sleeping on the couch.

After taking care of the children, Winkler police placed the man under arrest. The male suspect was heavily intoxicated and had trouble staying on his feet. Throughout the arresting process police say he was uncooperative, aggressive and resisted arrest multiple times.

The 28-year-old male was charged with assault, breach of undertaking, resisting arrest, forcible confinement, aggravated sexual assault and uttering threats.

The accused remains in custody awaiting his next court appearance November 9 in Winnipeg.

October 3, police received a report of two males who had caused a disturbance at Pizza Hotline and did not pay their bill. The suspects left the restaurant prior to police receiving the complaint, however the suspects were located and taken back to the restaurant to pay their bill. The restaurant was satisfied once the bill was paid and declined to press charges.

October 4, police were notified of an attempted fraud that had taken place at 7-Eleven regarding a male who called the store and claimed to work for the IT department of 7-Eleven. The male requested that staff obtain a pre-paid credit card and assist the caller with activating the card. The staff member refused the request of the caller and no money was obtained through the attempted transaction.

Police received a complaint from a female who stated that her ex-boyfriend was harassing her and refusing to leave her alone. Police issued a verbal warning for harassment to the ex-boyfriend and he agreed to leave his ex-girlfriend alone.

A resident of Redwood Drive reported that an intoxicated male had entered his sunroom and attempted to enter his home. The suspect was confronted by the homeowner and then left the area on foot. The complainant provided police with a description of the male however police were unable to locate the suspect.

October 5, a resident of Southview Drive reported several items stolen out of her garage sometime during the night. A tablet located inside a vehicle in the garage was stolen along with numerous food items from a freezer also located inside the garage.

Police received a report of theft regarding a vehicle from which the front and rear license plates were stolen while parked at a local business. The complainant provided police with a name of whom he believes is responsible for the theft. This file is still under investigation.

October 7, police received a report of a vehicle driving erratically along Main Street travelling approximately 100 kph or faster. Police patrolled the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

October 8, police received a report shortly before 1:00am of vandalism to a vehicle that was parked outside of a residence on Mountain Avenue. Damage was noted to all windows, along with multiple dents on the doors and long scratch marks that wrapped around the entire vehicle. This file is still under investigation.

October 9, a resident of Rietze Avenue reported that two unknown individuals were in his garage and going through his vehicle. Another resident of the home stated that she had seen a male with a flashlight on the driveway, and when she banged on the window a second male ran out of the garage. Both males fled on foot however police were unable to locate the suspects. The complainant believes a few cigarettes were stolen from the garage.

Police were dispatched to a residence on Majestic Crescent in regards to a domestic dispute taking place between a husband and wife. Police spoke with both parties and were satisfied that no assault had taken place. The husband agreed to depart the residence for the evening.

October 12, a resident of Gemstone Drive reported that unauthorized transactions had been made through her chequing account on October 10th and 11th. The complainant immediately advised her bank which then cancelled the debit card, and while the complainant was inside the bank, more fraudulent charges were put through the account, showing that the entire account was compromised. The complainant will be credited the fraudulent charges by the bank, and the bank will be conducting their own fraud investigation.

October 13, a staff member of Gateway Resources reported that a male driving a white truck has been removing items from the electronic recycling bin over the last two weeks that are meant to be recycled or ready to be shipped away. The staff member was able to provide police with the license plate number of the vehicle involved. Gateway Resources does not wish to pursue charges against the suspect but wants this activity to stop. Police have been unable to contact the suspect at this time and the file is still under investigation.

A report was received of vandalism to a vehicle consisting of a large hole in the back window of the vehicle, however the entire window shattered when the complainant opened the door. Police searched for the object which may have caused the damage, however no such object could be found. This file is still under investigation.

October 14, police received a report from a security company advising of an alarm that was set off for one of the doors at the outdoor performing stage near the Winkler Park. Police viewed video security footage which showed that four males pulled on the door and attempted to gain entry. The four males ran away after the alarm sounded, and entry to the building was not gained. This file is still under investigation.

October 15, while on general patrol police noted a vehicle that was stopped at a green light for approximately 30-60 seconds, then continued through the intersection. Police proceeded to follow the vehicle and activated the emergency lights in order to initiate a traffic stop, however, the vehicle continued driving away from police without stopping. Police then activated the siren and had to drive beside the vehicle in order for it to stop. Upon speaking with the driver of the vehicle, police detected a strong odour of liquor emanating from his breath and the driver was unable to listen to instructions provided. The driver complied to a demand for a breath sample and the result obtained was a “Warn” reading. The male’s driver’s license was suspended for 72 hours and his vehicle was towed from the scene.

Police also responded to several motor vehicle accidents, complaints of burning leaves, assisted with several reports of fires and received numerous noise complaints during this time period.
