The Winkler Day Care Centre is embarking on a big initiative, to replace a number of the facility's windows.  Many of the windows are very old, and Director Lenora Fassett said the seals are broken in a lot of those older windows.

The oldest daycare in the community, the Winkler Daycare Centre was incorporated in 1975.

A backyard carnival was held Friday to fundraise for the new windows.  The event raised over $2,600, which Fassett said is a good start and will likely pay for the replacement of windows for one room. "We'll continue fundraising, and to ask the community for support.  We appreciate the community so much for all the support they've already given us."

Over $30,000 is the estimated cost to pay for all the windows that need replacing.  "We do get an operating grant from the government, but because we have a very long-standing staff, a lot of that operating grant goes to paying wages.  So for any extras we would like to do, that usually comes from fundraising and donations from the community."

Friday night's carnival drew around 100 people.  "I also need to say a big thank you to Ang Nickel for organizing all the carnival games, and I need to say thank you to all the board of directors and staff.  Without them, this carnival would not have taken place."
