The Christmas season is a time to celebrate family, friends and enjoy plenty of food.

The City of Morden and Regional Connections wanted people in the region to experience the unique cultures and flavours the Pembina Valley has to offer at Taste the Holidays.

This potluck was created for people to grow closer, to share culture, and community, Alesha Hildebrand Regional Connections Volunteer and Integration Coordinator says.

"We put it together to create community between each other. To create an understanding that Canada isn't the only [place] that celebrates in our community, that there are different cultures and we all want to come together.

Every month a newcomer evening is held by the city and Regional Connections to welcome those new to the community, and Taste the Holidays is in partnership with that.

Zahid Zehri is a member of the Pembina Valley Multi-Faith Council he says a good meal is a great intermediary. He says when you're eating delicious food you don't have time to argue or focus on the differences in cultures, just time to enjoy the food, company, and learn about the things that connect different peole.

There isn't a specific theme to this event says Hildebrand, just a celebration of the many different holidays this time of year.

Hildebrand says within the Morden, Winkler, and Altona communities there are over 130 different countries represented.
