Fire Chief Ben Vanderzwaag says, at 7:30 a.m. the Carman-Dufferin Fire Department (CDFD) responded to a collision where a semi-truck rear-ended another semi-truck on Highway 13 north of Carman. He credits the blowing snow for causing poor visibility, which ultimately caused the accident.

"While we were attending to that accident, actually just arriving on scene to that accident, then a second accident between two SUVs happened."

Again, one SUV rear-ended the other as they were slowing down upon approaching the first accident.

"In total we had four vehicles that were involved in the accident, so we had to have the highway closed and bring in a number of tow trucks to have everything cleaned up."

He says there were no major injuries and traffic has returned to a regular flow in the area.

"The snow dust behind the vehicles is really limiting visibility today, and probably throughout the day and tomorrow. The highways are snow-covered and somewhat slippery so traffic should really take a lot of caution if you're going out, and if you don't need to be on the highway just stay home."

The CDFD is still on scene, Highway 13 will be opened to one lane and directed by emergency personnel. Please drive slow when passing.
