Six Altona-area organizations are splitting $20,000 in funding. The Altona Community Foundation has approved its fall grants for 2016.

Granting Committee Chair Brenda Thiesen this applications this time around were a bit light.

"We did get more applications than this but they were out of the service area, Rhineland Municipality, so we couldn't honour those or they were for purposes other than capital expenditures."

The six approved grants are:
Gardens on 10th - Fire Alarm Panel - $6,000

Field of Dreams - Grandstand Individual Seating - $4,500

Altona Curling Club - Sound System - $1,000

Bergthal School Project - Completion Costs - $3,500

Altona Maroons Minor Hockey - Jerseys - $2,000

Rosenfeld Good Neighbour Centre - Roof Repair/ Kitchen Upgrade - $3,000

Thiesen explains this money comes from the interest earned on ACF's endowment fund which currently sits just over $1.25 million.

"Nowadays interest isn't very high so the more we can grow the fund, the better."

And with the spring granting period up next, she reminds local groups of the many ways to apply. Applications are available on the Altona Community Foundation website and notifications are sent out by way of PembinaValleyOnline.com.

"It's fairly well-known and people pretty much know that we do it spring and in fall so they're usually ready for it."
