It looked like the Altona Fire Department couldn't answer calls fast enough on Monday night. Crews were spotted at several locations throughout town that evening.

Firefighters were expected to lay out hose and set up appropriate equipment as per the exercise

Fire Chief, Greg Zimmerman, said, however, the situation is not what it appeared to be and that members were running a series of drills called "roll-ups" as part of their weekly training session. He explained that firefighters rolled up to three different locations with simulated incidents at each spot.

"The members would have to go through the appropriate setup - laying out the hose and setting up the appropriate equipment as per the exercise."

Zimmerman added the exercises involved a simulated house fire in town, a simulated house fire out of town and a motor vehicle accident, with each scenario slightly different than the other.

"It's basically designed to make sure that the member(s) get everything off and in place in a timely fashion," he said.

Following each exercise, Zimmerman added members held a debrief of the scenario to review what was done correctly and what could be improved upon.
