The Town of Altona and Municipality of Rhineland are looking to implement a new recycling drop off site at the landfill, according to Altona's Chief Administrative Officer Dan Gagne.

The current design would allow residents to unload their large and small recyclables at a facility for a reduced price before entering the landfill to empty the remainder of their waste.

Through this project, Gagne said the town hopes to encourage greener living and for people to recycle more, as well as to prolong the life of the landfill by diverting reusable waste away from it.

The primary focus of this progam will be to collect large construction materials such as concrete, tires, rubble, clean wood, and scrap metal, which can all be repurposed for other projects.

Currently, the timeline for this project is uncertain.

Gagne said a roadbase for the loop will be the first step, but a large-scale facility will be in the later future. Much of the progress of this project is dependant on funding, he said, adding that the project will cost roughly $300,000.
