A 40 year-old woman from Altona is facing multiple charges following an extensive fraud investigation by the Altona Police Service. The case involved allegations of embezzlement dating back nearly 10 years.

Police began investigating the woman when Child and Family Services officials, and the Manitoba Department of Families, brought forward concerns that a foster parent/care giver had falsely claimed respite care for two children under her watch from 2009 to 2018.

During this timeframe, police say the woman allegedly gained over $42,000.00 from those false claims.

She has since been charged with three counts of Fraud Over $5,000.00. She has been released from custody with a future court date scheduled in Altona.

The children in this case are both adults now and are no longer in the woman's care.
