A 28-year-old man from Illinois crossed the border into the U.S. with a little less cash in his pocket Sunday night.

Emerson RCMP received a 911 call about a driver headed southbound on Highway 75 just north of Morris, who was weaving in and out of traffic at a high speed, on road poor conditions that included snowy sections and drifts.

Police clocked the vehicle travelling 153 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 75 by St Jean.

The driver told the officer he had heard the border might be closing due to the bad weather and road conditions, and wanted to get there before it shut down.

He was fined $744 for speeding and $672 for careless driving. He was also issued a serious offence notice.
