In total more than 50 volunteers alongside 16 Winkler Horticulture Society members helped plant a sea of flowers across the city this week.

Margaret Penner chairs the society and explains the planning process starts ten months prior to the day of when the plants go in the ground. This is where the colour scheme, the types of plants and design of each garden is decided.

This year, there are eleven designated plots, along with some smaller clusters of pots around the city, bringing a total of 24,000 flowers to bloom.

Penner explained that the colour scheme this year is purple, pink, silver, and white. She also asks that whomever is planting flowers this year stays with in the colour scheme. The colour scheme differs from last year, which was Canada's Centennial year.

More maintanence volunteers are needed for the season this year, noted Penner, also asking that if anyone wishs to volunteer their time, she can be contacted directly at 204-362-2552.
