The Parent Advisory Council at Winkler's Emerado Centennial School continues to work toward establishing the yard and outdoor play spaces of the ten year old middle years school. The council is working toward completing an ambitious four-phase beautification and playground enhancement project, and is currently working on Phase Two.

Advisory Council Chair Michelle Penner says they are very grateful for the tremendous support they have, and continue to receive, from individuals and businesses in the community.  Penner says people recognize the benefits that will come from the project, and notes the Christian Labour Association of Canada, through its Building Communities Program, was the latest to acknowledge that.  Penner says they were granted $1,500 through the program.

"I think they understood that although it's for a school yard, our school yard is used by the wider community after hours as well," said Penner.  "Any improvements we make to our school yard are not only a benefit to the students...but the community at large."

The Emerado yard is the largest green space on the south side of the city.  "I feel like anything we can do to improve it, benefits all the generations that live around there," added Penner.
