Residents in Altona are going to get an upgrade in recycling services. Starting next week, Blue Sky Opportunities will be providing pick-up services for recycling materials every week, instead of every two weeks.

A sea of blue recycle carts line the new Blue Sky recycling plant. They will be distribtuted to residents in the next week.

The change is connected to Blue Sky's new recycling plant which is now up and running.

"The idea was to change the recycling schedule as soon as possible in order to provide a steady stream of materials for processing at the plant," said Altona CAO Dan Gagne.

As part of the new schedule, residents will also be able to switch out their blue boxes with brand new wheeled recycling carts which will be delivered to single family and two family homes. Gagne noted Blue Sky will coordinate the delivery of the carts.

"The carts will protect all the recyclables from rain and snow and from being blown away by strong winds. So, there is no longer any need to sort the materials and no need for blue bags. Simply put all the paper, plastic, tin, glass into the cart. Everything can go in together."

Gagne says the changes will make recycling a little more convenient for local citizens.

The new weekly pick-up schedule begins on May 23rd.
