A blowing snow advisory has been issued for most of Southern Manitoba this morning.  Forecaster Jason Knight with Environment Canada says conditions are expected to improve today, but very slowly.

Knight said although there will be gradual improvement today, conditions are still quite poor throughout the Red River and Pembina Valleys.

Another 2 to 4 cm of snow is expected to fall today, accompanied by winds gusting to 60 km/h for much of the day and tapering off to gusts of 30 to 50 km/h tonight.

Knight said this storm system is a powerful, slow moving system.  "It's just stalled right over the Red River Valley and much of southern Manitoba.  It's basically just going to snow itself out while the rest of it moves off into northern Ontario."

Once this system moves out, get ready for windchill values below minus 30 by the end of the week.

Meanwhile, most highways throughout the region are ice coverered with drifting and blowing snow, some areas of heavy snow are reported along with poor visibility.  There are also some closures:

    Highway #75 is closed
    Highway #23 is closed
Highways #2, #3 and #14 also remain closed
