Members of the Border Valley Snow Goers snowmobile club are looking back on a banner year.

Club president, Vern Wieler, says significant snowfall in combination with a new groomer made for some of the best riding conditions in years.

According to Wieler, club volunteers groomed 4,240 KMs this winter.

"It's not often that we get that high, if we've ever gotten that high," he said. "We had lots of praise from many many riders this year."

Club memberships were also up from the 2017/18 season.

Meantime, a quick snow melt and mild conditions have shuttered the club's 320 KM network of trails for the season.

"We can't do a proper job grooming when it's so mild...plus it gets icy and some guys don't care for the trails to ice-up," explained Wieler.

He said safety was another factor in the decision, noting municipalities are beginning to open up ditches to allow for spring run-off and says much of that happens along the trail network.

"When that happens we have no choice but to shut it down."

Wieler thanks all of the board members and volunteers for a job well done this year. This list includes those who helped mark and groom the trails, and those who lent a hand pulling out a stuck a groomer now and again.
