Eleven people from the Pembina Valley had the chance to run the Canada Summer Games torch in the Morden leg of its journey around the province to Winnipeg.

"It was fantastic. They've done a lot of organization. It's a thrill walking up here with the torch and having all the people behind you cheering. It was exhilarating," said former Olympian and the final torch bearer Karen Doell.

Dale Ready, Liz Hildebrand, Chris Dick, Hailey Hunter, Michael Olotu-Jacob, Julie Kalinowski, Krista Hildebrand, Valerie Delorme, Glenn Lussier, and Mack Walske were the other ten torch bearers.

"It's very special for me because it's an exciting thing for me to get my citizenship in Canada. It's also very nice meeting new people and learning with everyone," said Olotu-Jacob.

The Canada Summer Games will be held in Winnipeg starting July 28th and go till August 13th.

"It's a crazy experience. Even from the other athletes to the volunteers, it's a cool atmosphere to be in. Everyone is so encouraging and everyone knows what it takes to get to that level," said Hildebrand, who was a gold medallist in air pistol at the 2015 Canada Winter Games held in Prince George. "There's a lot of respect for each other and it's just a great time."
