"They merchandised in the store one mile of shelving. There's one mile if you walk every aisle, twice I guess because of each side, [and] you've walked a mile in the store," says David Dunseath, Associate Dealer for the Winkler Canadian Tire.

Wednesday evening, staff, families, dignitaries, and community members took part in a ribbon cutting celebration for the newly renovated store.

Before renovations, the building was 22,000 sq. ft., and it also had a 2,700 sq. ft. garden centre on the west side. After renovations, the store is now 41,224 sq. ft. which doesn't include the warehouse at the back.

Dunseath says he was excited to finally have the renovation finished. "It's like you're at the altar waiting for your bride to show up around the corner. Obviously, that was more exciting, but I am just so proud for Winkler and the Pembina Valley."

The store is still one of the smaller ones across the province but has just pulled ahead to become the fourth smallest Canadian Tire in Southern Manitoba. The three smallest are now in Portage la Prairie, Dauphin, and Steinbach.

Dunseath says there are a lot of milestones behind the scenes that are important to note, including how sales have doubled since he first started.

"Most dealers, they have to stay in a store two years. I've been here 12 and a half. I always say there are 52 reasons to stay. We're closed on Sundays [and] that's a big deal, a huge deal."

He says the supportive people here and the fabric of the community draws people to the area, which makes major renovations like this possible.

"That kind of thing just keeps people here and it helps people supporting each other. This is a great place to do business, it's really good."

Dunseath is also thankful to the community for how accommodating they have been during the whole renovation process, and says the store "had no complaints from customers which is just such an odd thing."
