The Carman Christmas Cheer Board spent the past week preparing and delivering hampers to those in need.

On Thursday, community members delivered 126 hampers to people in Carman, Notre Dame, Roland, Homewood, Sperling, Elm Creek, Haywood, Graysville, and Roseisle. The hampers consisted of food, gifts, and other household items.

"To be able to deliver a hamper and share that part of Christmas, and see someones face when they get their hamper really is a wonderful thing. You really realize how blessed you are and people are really thankful when you show up at their door with the things they need to give their family a Christmas dinner," said Gina Hendricks.

Hendricks notes the Carman Christmas Cheer Board is centrally located, and tries to help people not covered by the geographical reach of other organizations. "When we get one of those calls in the country, like all the way out to Notre Dame, that's about as far as we want to go, but I also want to make sure everyone is looked after," she added.

Volunteers began collecting donations Tuesday, packed the hampers Wednesday, and delivery commenced Thursday. Although the number of people helping was down relative to previous years, students from Carman Collegiate and Dufferin Christian participated, diminishing any noticeable affect.

Carman Ford donated two trucks to help deliver hampers to those in rural areas and locations farthest away from Carman.
